I was looking for information on my Dad, 1st Sgt. George C. Shaw, Jr., and oh my God! He is on your website! He was one of the gold medalists (apparently) in the 1963 Eastern Division Match, Camp Lejeune (where I was born!!) He is listed on your see all winners here link (G) Shaw, G.C. 560-14. PLEASE!!!!! did you know him??? What do the numbers stand for? He is deceased. I was too young to know what was going on. I'm trying to find info on his service record. He had lots of medals and trophies for shooting as I can remember, but when he died, he was mad at Mom, so he left EVERYTHING to a marine-drinking-buddy. I have a newspaper article that says he won a Bronze Medal at the 1963 All Marine Pistol Championship Match (All Marine Shoot-Off), June 3-8, 1963, Camp Lejeune. Another that he was scheduled to compete in the 1959 Eastern Division Rifle and Pistol Matches, May 5-9, 1959, Camp Lejeune. He enlisted in 1946. Died Oct 8, 1985. Was member of Paton-Crosswhite VFW Post, Bristol (TN or VA???? don't know) If you knew him, or even just knew him long enough to compete against him, can you please email me with ANY memories of that time that you may have!! Or anyone else that is reading this, that knew him or served with him, loved him or hated him, please contact me !! GOD BLESS OUR TROOPS!!!!!!

Hi Kernice,
Thanks for all the coaching and tips you have provided to me and my son Chase. He is really looking forward to your help on the 600 yard line. We found the 23.5gr of the Mil 4895 behind the 80 gr Match king to work the best today. We will narrow that weight down some after his shooting improves a little more. He did real well with the Garand and is looking forward to the John C Garand match this Saturday. I hope everyone uses the M2 ball ammo. Thanks again,

Hello Mr. Landry,
I am currently looking for information on another Marine you may have know that is my father. His name is Robert L. Ellington Jr. (Duke) who was in rifle and pistol matches for the Marine Corps in the 1950's. He was a gunnery sargent or master sargent, possible both during this period. He was one of the best, if not the best when shooting pistol or rifle. I remember as a child watching him toss a beer can out upon New River and shooting it with his 45. He told me "Watch this!" He fired at the can and it jumped high in the air and ever time he fired the can would spin and whirl violently until he lowered his weapon allowing the can to finally fall to the water and sink.
On a personal note, I am planning on buying a Springfield M1A Tactical Rifle to teach my sons to shoot long ranges (300+ yds.) My thinking is this gun will tie me and my sons to my father and his past. I am hoping he will join my sons and I on a private range I have built for a local hunting lodge. My sons 10 & 13 have progressed from pellet, .22 and .243 shooting now out to 150 yds with ALL rounds inside 3 inches using a Ruger matched with Leopold scope. You should see the looks of dispair on grown mens faces at the public range. Joshua was tearing his target off one afternoon and two men were standing next to him at their targets when one of the guy said, "Damn! I'm just trying to hit the paper!" I had to turn around and bite my lip hard as I didn't see a tears on his sheet. Sir, the M1A Tactical is a very expensive weapon with 3rd generation illuminated military scope with range finder, bipods, sling, scope bracket, rings, hard case, cleaning kit, tool kit, rifle manual, and the knowledge the rifle is manufactured, tuned and tested spacifically for the .308 - well I consider it a bargain at $3,500.00. I am practicing telling my father as it is to be a surprise.
I apologize for meandering...if you know of any information resources on Marine Corp marksman history it would be appreciated. I was told by another Marine that Robert L. Ellington is important in this part of Marine Corp history and thus mentioned.
Mr. Landry it highly probable you may have served with my father in Korea. He was one of the gunnery sargents that took his platoon upon one of the ridges overlooking the pass the Marines were using to advance out of the Chosin Valley. I understand they had a pretty tough time. Thank you for your time sir.

Years ago as teenager I went to the Golden Triangle Gun Club range with my Father to shoot a black powder revolver he purchased. My dad joined the gun club to use the range and we went to have a little fun and shoot the pistol. While there, this man, for lack of a better word, began a very dogmatic lecture to us about unloading this pistol before anyone went downrange. Little did this idiot realize that a black powder pistol cant be unloaded. He was loud, rude and a complete jerk. We never went back needless to say. I am now 35 years old and I own a successfull advertising agency in california. That incident as a kid left a bad taste in my mouth about gun owners and as a result I've joined several anti-gun groups to wear down your rights to own firearms. I cant say why really and I suppose its stupid, but that incident made me detest gun owners and now as an adult with a successfull business behind me I have contributed many tax deductable dollars to these groups who will eventually have your guns confiscated. In retrospect this was all due to one loud mouth, arrogant, ignorant and dogmatic old son of a bitch who burnt his image in my adolescent mind as a personification of a gun owner. I've done my share of damage to your rights people and this was the underlying reason. take this story for what its worth to you

Hi there shooter. Just visiting your site again and updating you on our activities over on the 200 yard range. I think David Hartman and I are about to have a John C.Garand match directly after our bolt match. He has all of the info from cmp and I guess we will go with it. That will be 15 April right after the bolt match. Now the whole world will know because they visit this sight. Thanks A Million. Adam Courville Sr.

Enjoyed looking through your 10 generations of Landry ancestry. I am trying to find mine. I only have info to my grandfather who was Henry Landry born in Iberia parish, 1865 married to Felecie Romero, I believe in 1898. i also know he had one brother only, named Terville Landry. His mother married a Mr. Leon Lars, after her husband died. Any help would be appreciated

Mr. Landry, thanks for all the info you have been sending. I am not very proffecient at this computer thing yet. We now have an official bolt gun match which is after the saturday of the military match. It was held yesterday and Danny Boyd shot his trainer 22 long rifle again. Things were going well for him until the wind kicked up and all he could salvage was expert 1st. Lee Killingsworth won master all by himself. The rest of us were marksman and a new kid Christian Diaz, won that with a mauser 98. Walt Haley showed up with his space gun and shot high master unofficially. Seems he got his dates mixed up but we let him shoot anyway. To get to the point, shooting a bolt gun is a satisfying experience but a humble one. You have a neat web site, a pleasure to look at. Served from 1971 through 1975. Right out of boot camp got orders for 8th & Eye Washington D.C. the oldest post of the Corps. Went to Marine Corp Institute (MCI). Interviewed for Camp David duty served a year guarding Nixon. After that was transfered to Camp Pendleton and was 1st Marine Divisions generals driver ( Brigadier General Houghton.) Didn't like the personal servitude. Thats hard to tell a General when your a L/Cpl. So he transferred me to 3/7 in San Mateo on Camp Pendleton just outside the Camp was San Clemente. There I worked in the S-3 typing training schedules for a Major Livingston (Medal of Honor recipient.) Boy did he like to run. Anyway, Sgt. Donner who was the S&C and CMS clerk in the S-1 was getting out so the adjutant new me and my back ground. When I left Camp David I was at a Top Secret with a White House access. When I left they downgraded me to a secret. So, it was easy for him to get me a Top Secret with a crypto access. N.I.S did the B.I on me so it was easy. Spent ther next 2 years 3 months in the S-1 behind the big vault door. It was more of a glorified classified librarians job but I loved it. Never had to make formations. Cause the E.O. and the C.O. wanted the up-to-date messages from Division on their desks when they got there. I had great duty. Thanks for the opportunity to post all this stuff never did it before.

Shooter, this is great. I am jealous and hope when I make my page that it is half as good. Yours on the scale of 1 - 10, with 10 being best, it rate an 11. Will visit this site often. Lots of luck and good shooting. Semper Fi, Red Dok

I'm impressed- excellent animations and, of course, what else would I expect for the music. Really neat family pictures - that's the first time I've seen that picture of popeet. I like the idea of the shooting scores record to review at any time.

Mighty fine place to visit. Just what we need to keep us shooters together. I used to see you at the long range every month, but I'm afraid it'll be awhile before I'll be back. It seems that somewhere along the way I broke my neck and it came time to get it fixed. I'll be visiting.
