E. 578-39 *************** Carlos Hathcock *************** Carlos Hathcock of Arkansas joined the Marine Corps in 1959. In 1965, He won the coveted Wimbledon Cup for winning the 1,000 yard High Power Rifle Championship at Camp Perry, Ohio. He is a man of honor and integrity. He trained Marine shooters ever since his return from Vietnam. He is honored here because he is the finest example of a sniper -- honor, respect, grace, and 93 confirmed kills! His unconfirmed kills bring his total body count to well over 300. He never acted out of malice or hate. He simply did his job and he did it well. He killed one Vietnamese General and held an entire platoon at bay for 24 hrs. He shot damned near every one of them that tried to escape. Overnight he called in flares to illuminate the target, trapping those on the run in the open and shooting them. Carlos Hancock died February 22,1999.
